nearly lost to time, capturing

the very soul of the Soria landscape in its wines.

Galia is an adventure, more than just a winery—it's a new story being written on the ancient pages of Soria's winemaking tradition. It rescues scattered, forgotten, and almost impossible old vines, capturing in its wines the essence of a land with unique character. We reclaim a heritage with an uncertain future to honor it with pride.

A mosaic of plots, villages, and grape varieties forming a complex system that brings richness and authenticity to the wines, most of which come from more than 100 year-old vines, growing in a land marked by its high altitude and extreme climate, alongside the ancient knowledge of the people who call it home.

The Winery

Galia Soriana was born in 2023 with the aim of recovering vineyards from areas bordering the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin. Even if they doesn't share the same territory, they embrace the same values. In the far western part of Soria, ancient vines can be found—many of them ungrafted, some impossible to date—scattered across small or even minuscule plots that grow amidst sands, limestone, and clays. This land is defined by its imposing altitude and extreme temperature fluctuations.

The villages

The complexity of our vineyards, scattered across the villages of Soria that border the Ribera del Duero DO, presents a great challenge, making each harvest a truly unique experience.

The villages

Los Pueblos de Galia
Galia

The vineyards of Galia Soriana are scattered across small plots in various villages of the western and riverside regions of the province, primarily in Piquera de San Esteban, Osma, Zayuelas, Morcuera, Quintanilla de Nuño Pedro, Recuerda, Morales, and Vildé, among others, with more villages to join in the future.

They share the complexity of diverse soils, most of which are poor, with long, cold winters and hot summers, at altitudes sometimes surpassing a thousand meters above sea level, and extreme temperature swings between day and night. Each vineyard holds its own essence and personality, shaped by its unique orientation, framed by mountains, valleys, forests, or even set upon solid bedrock: each one different, each one unique.

This mosaic of small plots harbors a range of grape varieties, adding extraordinary richness to our wines. As in the past, we can find a blend of Tempranillo and Albillo Mayor, Pirulés, Garnacha Tinta, Garnacha Tintorera, Bobal, and others still yet to be identified.

Such diversity presents a fascinating challenge: to capture the essence of each vintage. The complexity of our vineyards makes every harvest unique, a true reflection of the land and climate of that particular year. It is a delicate task, one that requires meticulous attention and a deep understanding of our soil, which is why the ancient wisdom of the wommen and men who have always made wine in this region, along with their artisanal work, is absolutely essential.

Our
wines

Las Aldeas de Galia captures the essence of the winemaking tradition of the villages of Soria—villages that, for one reason or another, were excluded from the Ribera del Duero DO. It is a tribute to the old vines that preserve the unique identity of Sorian wines, shaped by generations and cradled by a land that breathes slowly.

It´s a single-vineyard wine from the village of Piquera de San Esteban (Soria). The vineyard, dating back to 1930, lies on a hill at 970 meters above sea level, facing north. It spans 1.12 hectares and is planted with ungrafted Tempranillo and Albillo. The shallow soil, mainly sand and gravel, rests upon a base of limestone sandstone. This plot embodies the highest expression of this village.
